Treating Periodontal Disease without Incisions or Stitches

LANAP® Offers Greater Comfort through Laser Dentistry

Many think of periodontal disease as an irritation of the gums but it is much more than that. It is a chronic oral infection that slowly destroys your gum tissue and bone, leaving your teeth without support. Did you know that periodontal disease has been linked to conditions like diabetes and heart disease? Worse still, nearly half of the U.S. population suffers from some stage of gum disease. Without treatment, your oral health will progressively deteriorate. Symptoms include:

  • Bad breath
  • Bleeding, swollen gums
  • Gum recession
  • Wide periodontal pockets
  • Loose or shifting teeth
  • Loss of teeth and bone

Gum Disease Treatment Doesn’t Have to Be Painful

Why do 50% of Americans suffer without treatment? It could be due to perceived pain and discomfort associated with traditional gum surgery but unlike earlier “cut and sew” techniques, laser gum surgery can treat your infection without scalpels. Dr. Sunny Drake performs the Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP®), to afford you the following benefits:

  • Reduced inflammation immediately after LANAP®
  • Minimal bleeding and discomfort
  • Faster healing with little downtime
  • LANAP® is proven to regenerate the bone that supports your teeth
  • A healthier smile in only one or two sessions

How Does Laser Gum Surgery Work?

Periodontal disease is caused by bacteria that have infected the gum tissue. The laser utilized in LANAP® is so fine that it may be slipped in between the teeth and gums. This allows Dr. Drake to access the infected areas, vaporizing bacteria and removing infected tissue, without making an incision. In this manner, LANAP® may be used to treat an infection affecting the tissue around a single tooth, or it can effectively treat your entire mouth. When comprehensive treatment is required, Dr. Drake typically schedules gum surgery in two sessions.
